Supporting Black Owned Restaurants – Dubs St John’s

With the national and world-wide focus on uplifting our Black and POC community members, there are so many ways to to support and amplify this movement. Education in the form of movies, books, and podcasts; donations to nonprofits and bail funds; attending protests; writing letters to lawmakers; and buying from Black and POC owned businesses are just a few really tangible and accessible ways.

Eating at Dubs St John’s is a delicious way to support the community in the St John’s Neighborhood of Portland. Dubs is run by head chef William “Dub” Travis, and serves up classic and delicious soul food. You can order brisket, ribs, famous fried chicken, candied yams and more!

Not only does Dub’s have some of the best food in town, they are committed to supporting the community around them. Previous to coronavirus closures of their storefront, Dubs hosted weekly fundraisers where 100% of their proceeds were donated to local schools like Rosa Parks Elementary, George Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High.

They are currently offering take-out and pickup, and this is a delicious way to do your part! Activism needs fuel, and fried chicken might just be the food of the revolution!
