Adventures at the Queer Compound: Home Bartending at the Tropical Escape Bar
In these desperate & lonely times, we are so very lucky to have a full bar in our house. Our mid-century modern ranch (affectionately known as the Queer Compound) is located in Milwaukie, was built in the late 60s, and has lots of cool touches that I’m excited to share.
First up is our amazing bar & lounge on our back patio, which is definitely coming in handy during these days at home. It’s not just any bar, it’s a full blown tropical escape experience complete with colorful orbs, blowfish lights, hanging parrots, velvet panther paintings and many a thoughtfully placed sea shell. We’ve stocked it with vintage glassware and knickknacks, and our favorite spirits, obviously.
My favorite cocktail recently has been a Pain Killer. While you’re cooped up at home too, give it a whirl!
Here’s the official ingredient list, but feel free to improvise:
2 ounces rum (navy or dark)
4 ounces pineapple juice
1 ounce cream of coconut
1 ounce orange juice
Garnish: nutmeg
4 ounces crushed ice
Cherry & pineapple slice (garnish)
To make it, you simply pour everything into a blender, add ice, blend, and pour into your favorite glassware. Garnish and voila!
Cheers!
